That was "ME"
I could hear the
cries of people from a very distant location. The cries were loud enough though
as if someone had lost its loved one. I started to move towards the location
where the cries were being heard. At first they were just faint cries but as
soon as I went closer, they were clearer now. I could also see a lot of people
had gathered in the house where the cries were being heard. A lot of people
were heard saying, "He was a good person indeed". Some were even
saying, "God hasn't done justice to the person." I heard one
older gentleman saying, "He couldn't have died at such a young age."
So, I assumed that person must be very young. I slowly started to move towards
the house where the cries were coming. It was difficult to move forward as
there was lot of people who had gathered to the house. "The person must be
very well known, it seems", I thought to myself. Sometimes, Life seems so
unpredictable. You cannot predict the exact time when life will end. I started
to move closer to the house and the more close I moved, my heart started to
beat faster. It seemed to coming from my own house. Who might it be? I began to
think. It was all good that day. It had started well as I had woken up early in
the morning, went for a morning walk, had a nice bath and then wore my perfect
suit as I had a urgent meeting with the client, and then had my breakfast.
After having my breakfast, I drove in my car to the office. In the office also,
everything was cool. Once I reached office, I checked for some important mails
and then had my first morning tea while gossiping about office politics with my
best of colleagues, Abhinav and Surendra. These days the hot topic of
discussion has been the hike we will receive by this month. We discussed and
analyzed the amount of hike we might get this month. After that, I had gone
back to my workstation to complete my presentation that I had to deliver to
the client. So, it was more than a normal day, not an unusual day. But, then, what
are the cries all about at my home. Why are the people crying? I could see
someone lying on the ground and a white sheet draped over it. The whole family
had surrounded the person. I tried to recognize each and every person. I could
see my friends, Abhinav and Surendra standing near to the person. What were
they doing over there? Don't they have a call with the client? They had to go
with the client's representative today for a dinner. Then, what were these
people doing here. I moved forward and I could see some of family members even.
What were they doing over here? I began to look worried but without showing
anyone that I was worried. I kept my cool and I continue to move forward, just
asking everyone to move aside. But, no one listened to me it seems as if they
were so engrossed in the grief. When I move more ahead, I saw my mother crying
out loud. I began to wonder who this person was. All sorts of thoughts started
to come to my mind. I saw my children, Ashima and Ashwin who were playing with their their aunt, my sister-in-law. And, then, suddenly my heart started to beat
more quickly when I saw my wife sitting more closely to the person and my
relatives were trying to make her cry. She was not crying at all instead she
was sitting still like in a state of shock. I went to her and tried to talk to her. "Neha" I
called to my wife. "Please talk to me, Neha. I am here." I tried to
speak to her but she didn't move. I got
worried. I slowly move towards the person lying over there, and tried to move
the sheet but couldn't reach over there. And, then suddenly there was a strong
wind that blew to that place and that suddenly lifted the sheet from the
person. I could see everyone holding their hands trying to protect their eyes
from the blowing wind. I too tried hard to see as the wind was so strong but I just managed to have a glance at the half-lifted sheet and I was
shocked to see the sight. The person who was lying on the ground was "ME".
I could see now what all had happened in a flashback of events, how all this
had happened.
After I had
successfully presented in front of the client, I received a call from my wife
that one of her relative was seriously ill and we had to visit them as soon as
possible. I finished my work quickly and was driving back home quickly. I was
in a hurry so I drove my car speedily. I must have driven my car to almost 90
Kmph. However, suddenly, I saw a child running crossing the road and I lost my
balance. I tried to put breaks but then it was too late. There was a truck that
was approaching towards me and my car hit the truck, which was also in a high
speed. My car turned upside down along 90 degrees and then it flew to hit a
tree. I was lying in a pool of blood over there on the road, lying over there
helpless but it was just my body that was there. My soul was already in some
other place, into the place where God lives, “in the heaven”.
